Expect Additional Exynos SoCs Powered By AMD

As Samsung and AMD extend their collaboration.

The first Exynos chipset to include an AMD Radeon GPU and the sole offspring of Samsung and AMD's strategic alliance is the Exynos 2200 chipset, which powers the Galaxy S22 variants in Europe, for instance.

In case you forgot, AMD and Samsung partnered in 2019 intending to create "ultra-low power, high-performance mobile graphics IP based on AMD Radeon graphics technologies."

However, more than a year has gone since the Exynos 2200's introduction, which was in January 2022, and there has been no word concerning the development of a new AMD-powered Exynos chipset. So, will more Exynos chipsets be running AMD in the future? Indeed.

Samsung and AMD recently revealed that they were expanding their multi-year relationship to deliver "multiple generations of high-performance, ultra-low-power AMD Radeon graphics solutions to an expanded portfolio of Samsung Exynos SoCs" (via Android Authority).

As a result, AMD's graphics technology will undoubtedly be included in more Exynos SoCs in the future. They presumably won't be used to power premium Samsung Galaxy devices, though. Samsung and Qualcomm revealed last year that their strategic alliance had been strengthened and that Samsung had decided to use Snapdragon chipsets in all of its future premium Samsung Galaxy products.

So, let's hope Samsung decides to use Exynos SoCs from AMD in its midrange devices. When the Exynos 2200s was up against the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, it demonstrated incredibly strong gaming performance. Admittedly, it wasn't as powerful as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, but it made up for it with stable performance and cost-effective power use.

Consider a Samsung midrange phone with a gaming-capable chip like the Exynos 2200. This will offer Samsung's less expensive phones a significant competitive advantage. Almost every shortlist will undoubtedly include a smartphone with high-end gaming performance that is affordable.
