Pascal Okechukwu, Nigerian socialite and businessman widely known as Cubana Chief Priest, has announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu does not trust him due to his previous support for Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election.

Cubana made the comment during a livestream session with Peller, a popular streamer, in a clip that surfaced online on Wednesday.

Speaking in pidgin English, Rascal said the president still views him with suspicion because he openly supported Obi and the Labour Party in the last election.

“President Bola Tinubu no really trust me as an Igbo man that I am. He look me with one eye because he believes that this one that worked for Peter Obi before at the last election,” he stated.

The socialite, who currently serves as the Imo State Coordinator of the Pro-Tinubu City Boys Movement, stressed that he later switched allegiance because he did not want to remain on the losing side politically.

When asked why he abandoned Obi’s camp, Cubana Chief Priest said, “Because I don’t want to lose again because they say first fool no be fool, na the second fool be proper fool.”

Pascal also dismissed Obi’s chances ahead of the 2027 presidential election, describing Peter Obi as “not serious” while insisting that “the serious people will win".

His remarks triggered mixed reactions online, with critics alleging Cubana Chief Priest of political opportunism, while supporters argued that his comment reflected the realities of Nigeria’s political landscape.

The socialite was among popular entertainers who openly campaigned for Obi and the Labour Party before the 2023 elections. He has since aligned himself with the ruling All Progressives Congress and President Tinubu.

Pascal recently obtained an APC House of Representatives nomination form but later withdrew from the race on the day of the party’s primary election.

Similarly, the socialite said, “After I lost, the party is now pampering me, saying, ‘CP, don’t worry.'" The loss is now working in my favour. One of my chairmen called me and asked if I was okay, and I said, “I’m just here.” He said he had a car he bought to give me after my primary election.

“He said I am his honourable for life and that I should come and pick the car up. Tomorrow I am picking up the car. The most painful part of this is that I have a great league of friends, and if I had scaled through, I would have opened a WhatsApp group for my friends.”
