Bruno Fernandes, the captain of Manchester United, has explained why he gave Marcus Rashford, a teammate, the opportunity to take a penalty during their 3-0 victory over Everton.

Alejandro Garnacho's incredible overhead kick that opened the scoring for the Red Devils had given them the lead.

VAR then ruled that Ashley Young had tripped Anthony Martial in the box, awarding the visitors a penalty.

The ball was passed to Rashford, the designated penalty taker, by Fernandes.

Rashford took the ball and slotted it past Jordan Pickford for his second goal of the season.

Martial then sealed United's victory by scoring the game's third goal late in the game.

Fernandes explained his decision to Sky Sports, saying, "Because Marcus needed a bit of confidence, he needed his goal."

“He is an excellent penalty taker. I was sure he could score that penalty and Marcus did it perfectly.

“I think obviously strikers and wingers need to score goals, it is part of their game. Marcus was unstoppable and he could take on everybody.”
