President Bola Tinubu has congratulated D'Tigress' coach, Ms. Rena Wakama, on receiving the award for the best women's basketball coach at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

D'Tigress, Nigeria's women's basketball team, delivered an outstanding performance at the Olympics, becoming the first African basketball team to reach the quarterfinals. According to President Tinubu's spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, the recognition of the 32-year-old Ms. Wakama by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) highlights her well-established leadership qualities and dedication to excellence.

The President commended the team, the coach, and all those who contributed to the unprecedented feat at the Olympics, urging them not to give up or become discouraged, but to remain resilient and determined to achieve greatness. President Tinubu stated that while winning trophies and medals is the ultimate goal in competitive sports, nothing can compare to the good sportsmanship, discipline, and sacrifice demonstrated by all those who represented Nigeria at the Olympic Games.

The President thanked the Nigerian delegation and wished them well in their respective endeavours.
