Favour Ofili of Team Nigeria made history on Monday night by qualifying for the women's 200-meters final at the ongoing 2024 Olympic Games at the Stade de France in Paris.

Ofili became the first Nigerian to attain the milestone since Mary Onyali advanced to the final of the women's 200m event at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics in the United States.

In heat 1 of the semi-finals, she ran a season-best 22.05 seconds, finishing behind Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia.

Ofili will compete in the event's final on Tuesday evening, among seven other competitors.

The Nigerian athlete is last on the list, with a global ranking of 31 and a personal best of 21.96.

Ofili, who was born in 2002, six years after Onyali achieved the feat, will be looking to improve on her compatriot's bronze medal performance.

Ofili’s ground-breaking race came after she missed out from the 100m race owing to an administrative lapse.
