The future of Kylian Mbappe has been further questioned after the French champion Paris Saint-Germain left him out of the team for a preseason tour of Japan on Friday.

The reason for leaving out the captain of France was not stated by PSG.

Younger brother of Mbappe, 16-year-old Ethan Mbappe, and the club's senior star player Neymar will both be on the 29-member team that departs for the east on Saturday.

Mbappe announced in May that he would not extend his PSG contract, which expires next year, but that he still intended to play one more season for the team.

“I still have a year left on my contract and I am going to honour my contract,” he said.

With that, he could leave PSG for nothing and sign as a free agent the next summer.

Nasser al-Khelaifi, the president of PSG, responded by declaring earlier this month that Mbappe "must sign a new contract."

The best player in the world right now cannot be allowed to leave for nothing. It's not feasible, Khelaifi claimed.

The team is now run by a new management team, and Luis Enrique is the head coach.

On July 25, they'll play in Nagai against Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia, the team that Cristiano Ronaldo plays for. Prior to ending the tour on August 3 in Busan, South Korea, PSG will play Cerezo Osaka in Nagai and Inter Milan in Tokyo.

In an agreement worth 180 million euros ($196 million), Mbappe moved from Monaco to PSG in August 2017. Since then, he has become one of the most renowned players in the world.
