Kenpong Academy Issued an Immediate Temporary Suspension After Assaulting Referee

The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association has issued an immediate temporary suspension on Kenpong Academy FC's use of Swedru Stadium for home matches.

The choice was decided as a result of the horrific incidents that happened on April 17, 2023, during Matchday 23 vs Kenpong FC and New Edubiase FC.

Godfred Kyegah, the game's center referee, quickly called the match to a close after being violently attacked by Kenpong Academy supporters and players after giving New Edubiase a second penalty.

According to the GFA, the decision complies with Article 14(2) of the GFA Division One League Regulations, which says, among other things, “the GFA may order the closure of any league center where the safety of clubs, Match Officials or Spectators cannot be guaranteed.”

New Edubiase had a 3-2 advantage when the game was called by the referee.

The Competitions Department is required under the Division One League Regulations to choose a different location for the club's ensuing home games.

However, the offenders must prepare for yet another decision from the Disciplinary Committee.
