The Department of State Services (DSS) withdrew its employees from Governor Ademola Adeleke, according to the Osun State government, following a minor disagreement between its officers and the police, which occurred yesterday.
Olawale Rasheed, the Governor's spokesperson, issued a statement confirming this and stating that the issue had been referred to the headquarters of the two security agencies for resolution.
The statement reads, “The attention of the Osun State Government has been drawn to a report on the alleged withdrawal of security personnel from Governor Ademola Adeleke.
“We want to clarify that it is a minor disagreement between officers of the Department of State Services and the Police.
“The matter has been reported to the headquarters of the two security agencies for resolution. The issue is being sorted out.
“We reassure members of the public that there is no cause for alarm. The governor is fully secured and governance is proceeding without let or hindrance.”
However, the ongoing conflict between the incumbent governor and his immediate predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has nothing to do with the DSS officials' withdrawal.
Inside sources from the decision Osun People's Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC), in a phone call with Lagos Local News, excused hypotheses that the withdrawal had to do with legislative issues or charges and counter-claims among Adeleke and Oyetola.
They claimed that the DSS and Police Command's rivalry over which agency should provide the governor with the Chief Details or Chief Security Officer (CSO) was to blame for the development. It was alleged that the DSS had outperformed the police in the development, and as a result, the DSS reportedly decided to withdraw its officers in protest.
