Murtala Garo has been confirmed by the Kano State House of Assembly to serve as the deputy governor of the state after his successful screening exercise.

The confirmation took place during Monday’s plenary session, following the presentation and approval of the report of an ad hoc committee, presided over by the Speaker Jibril Falgore.

While presenting the committee’s report, the chairman of the committee and Deputy Speaker Muhammad Bello noted that the nomination of Murtala Garo was prompted by the recent resignation of the former deputy governor, Aminu Gwarzo.

Bello emphasised that the screening was conducted in line with Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers the Assembly to approve a nominee in the event.

The committee said the nominee underwent a comprehensive screening process, including an extensive question-and-answer session that comprises his educational background, professional experience, understanding of governance, and vision for the state.

Adding that his credentials were also verified.

The committee also added that Garo demonstrated a clear understanding of the responsibilities of the office and presented a workable vision to back the administration of Governor Abba Yusuf in delivering on its mandate.

Reports noted that the committee recommended his confirmation, which was subsequently adopted by the House.

Following the adoption, Speaker Falgore put the decision to the floor, and members unanimously accepted the nomination, formally confirming Garo.

Governor’s spokesperson Ibrahim Adam confirmed the development in a post on his Facebook page.

He wrote, “Kano State House of Assembly has finally screened and approved Hon Murtala Sule Garo as nominee for Deputy Governor as requested by Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf.”
