Prince Chinedu Munir Nwoko, popularly known as Ned Nwoko, has called on Delta State youths to vote for Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidates to ensure transparency and productivity in the state.
Ned Nwoko, the Delta North senatorial candidate of the PDP, made the call at a town-hall meeting with the youths at Idumuje Unor, in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, yesterday.
The lawyer, politician, and philanthropist also assured the youths that he was not contesting for the senatorial seat to accumulate wealth but to genuinely represent the people, yield positive results, and show the people what it means to have a senator.
Nwoko, who emphasized the value of having PDP members occupy the five political offices particular to the state, agreed that some PDP candidates could have done better during their first tenure. However, he explained that working under a government led by the All Progressives Congress, APC may have affected their efforts.
He said, “I appreciate your love, support, and the way the youths willingly show their support for me. But I want you to understand that I cannot do what you expect from me alone. I have a team that I must work with to ensure that all the workable plans I have for the youths, including the N50 million grant bill, come to reality.
“This team includes Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the presidency, Sheriff Oborevwori and Monday Onyeme for governorship, Ndudi Elumelu for House of Representatives, and Emeka Nwaobi for House of Assembly.
“There may have been some candidates who did not do as expected during their first tenure in office. I want you to understand that working under the APC government may have dwindled their efforts. Whatever the case, I promise to take responsibility for any of them who will not live up to expectations this time.
“It is easier for me to work with PDP members because I can access them easily, unlike members of other parties. So, voting for only me is not enough. We must ensure we win PDP 5/5, and I assure you of transparent and productive governance in return.
“By God’s grace, I am a comfortable man in life, so there is nothing anyone can offer me that can make me compromise my principles. Hence, we will work for the people,” Nwoko declared.
Responding, the leader of the youths, Mr. Hillary Ikechukwu, lauded the senatorial candidate for being of tremendous help to the people, even without vying for or occupying any political position.
Ikechukwu pointed out that the community needed intervention in creating jobs. He said, “We are grateful to you, sir, for all you have done and are doing for our people, even without occupying any political position. We appreciate you.
“However, the issue of unemployment is one of the problems plaguing the youths of this community. I can confidently bet that over 70% of the youths in this hall do not have a decent job,” he disclosed.
