Tinubu Will Not Be on Ballot If There will be a Rerun – LP

The Obi-Datti Campaign has put forth a statement asserting that President Tinubu will not participate in a rerun election, referencing evidence presented during proceedings at the Election tribunal.

President Tinubu, along with Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, is reported to be the only eligible contender, as stated by the campaign. President Tinubu recently urged the justices of the court to disqualify the LP’s candidate, Peter Obi, from any potential rerun in the presidential election.

Taking into account that Peter Obi secured a third-place finish in the initial race, legal representatives representing Tinubu and the APC have formally requested the court to prevent the occurrence of a rerun.

However, the LP has labeled the stance taken by Tinubu's legal team as an attempt to influence the justices' decisions to align with his perspective. The evidence presented by the Obi-Datti Campaign emphasizes that President Tinubu has no intention of participating in a rematch.

In a discussion with ThisDay, Diran Onifade, the spokesperson and head of media for the campaign, expressed his view that President Tinubu's actions, including the push to exclude Peter Obi and the legal challenges to the election results in Kano, suggest a decline in his support within states such as Rivers and Benue.

He said, “If there will be a second election, it will be between the top two. Tinubu will not be among the top two because all the issues we raised are enough to disqualify him. The certificate forgery, the drug trafficking forfeiture, the invalid nomination of his vice, etc. All those things would have disqualified him in the first place.

Speaking on the claim that Obi came third, Onifade said, “So, if there is going to be another election, their man would have been disqualified.

“We talked about the figure we put together from Rivers State and Benue State. He didn’t even address those at all. When you remove what they stole in Rivers and Benue states and you add to Obi’s, their own figures would have gone down and Obi won’t be in the third position again.”

When asked if the results in Rivers and Benue states would be sufficient to unseat either Tinubu or Atiku, he responded that the matter was still in litigation.
