Reps Ask NERC, DISCOs to Reverse Band A Tariff Hike

Idongesit Udoewah

The House of Representatives has asked the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, and the distribution companies, DISCOs, to reverse the pricing increase for Band A customers.

This directive was issued on Tuesday following the adoption of a report presented by the House Committee on Power.

Recall that NERC recently announced a rate increase for Band A customers, who would now pay N225 per kilowatt.
The House also decided to look into the tariff increase while it is being investigated.

Victor Nwokolo, Chairman of the Committee on Power, while presenting the report, stated that Nigerians cannot afford the increased tariff.

The Committee proposed a return to the status quo.

The recommendations were adopted by the Committee, and then passed.
