PDP Drops Bye-election Timetable, Pegs Senate Form at N3.5m

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has shared a timetable for candidates vying for senatorial, House of Representatives, and state assembly seats in the upcoming February 3, 2024, by-elections.

The PDP timetable, released on Tuesday and signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, outlines that the sale of nominations, expressions of interest, and delegate forms will commence on December 28, 2023, and conclude on January 3, 2024. while primary elections are set to take place on January 9, 2024.

The PDP has set the price for Expression of Interest and Nomination forms at N3.5 million, N2.5 million, and N600,000 for the Senate, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly, respectively.

The party has specified that female aspirants and persons living with disabilities will only pay for nomination forms. Meanwhile, youths under 40 are entitled to a 50% discount on nomination forms when purchasing Expression of Interest forms.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) scheduled February 3, 2024, for the by-elections, resulting from the resignation or demise of members of the National and State Houses of Assembly.

These vacancies span across two senatorial districts, four federal constituencies, and three state constituencies, covering nine states in the Federation.
