Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has been asked by a  civil society Organisation, the World Institute of Peace to immediately reinstate three monarchs who have been removed from office in the state.

Additionally, Adeleke was advised to refrain from interfering politically with Yoruba customs.

Recall that Governor Ademola Adeleke signed an Executive Order halting the installation of the Owa of Igbajo, Akirun of Ikirun, and Aree of Iree upon his inauguration in November 2022.

At the end of his administration in 2022, his predecessor, the former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, appointed the three monarchs.

The Adeleke administration claimed that the monarchs were installed without due process.

The group's Executive Director, Lamina Omotoyosi, issued a statement on Friday in which she called the Osun State Governor's action "a misplacement of duty."

Omotoyosi also emphasized that the judiciary has the authority to annul a king's installation.

She said, “Before Adeleke was sworn in as governor, there were a number of cases of kingship tussles in court, including that of Timi of Ede, his hometown, who celebrated 15 years on the throne, and Ataoja of Osogbo.

“Due to the installation process, no previous governor of the state has ever dethroned or suspended a king.

“Adeleke ought to take lessons from history and let the courts decide.

“The governor ought to make an appeal to the people who have been wronged in the communities that have been affected to allow the use of the courts, to increase the level of security in the areas, and to warn anyone who might want to cause trouble.

Adeleke demonstrated executive authority in such a way that his actions can only be described as feelings.

"Adeleke should simply know that those kings were installed within the context of the constitutional right of the former governor," he said.

He ought to put an end to playing politics with Yoruba custom.

The governor ought to allow the monarchs in question to return.

“Be it as it might, it is profoundly absurd for the public authority of Osun Express, the support of Yoruba land, to interact with the build of its conventional rulers."
