During a campaign rally in Ughelli South and Ethiope West councils of the state, Okowa promised to revive the economy if he is elected with his running mate in the upcoming presidential election. "The PDP knows how to revive an economy," said Okowa, referring back 17 years ago when his party came into power after years of military rule.

He promised the people that, if they voted in large numbers, he would be able to make his voice heard by making sure their concerns were addressed.

He said that, under the ruling APC’s leadership, Nigeria's economy had been destroyed and multinational companies were relocating to Ghana, “We did it when we came in 1999 and took the country to greater heights until APC came with its negative change that brought hunger, poverty, insecurity and unemployment.

“All the problems brought into the country by the APC-led Federal Government would be addressed by the PDP presidency, when elected.

“When the PDP government came on board in 1999 after long years of military rule, we restored the lost glory of the country by resuscitating the economy to an enviable status.”

In an interview with the press, Okowa said that Sheriff Oborevwori had all of the qualifications necessary to be governor and urged people in Anambra State to support his election as well as those of other PDP candidates.
