Mudashiru Obasa Re-Elected as Speaker of the Lagos State Assembly

Gbadamosi Azeezah

Mudashiru Obasa has returned as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, a position he previously held before his impeachment on January 13, 2025. His removal had been prompted by allegations of corruption and financial misconduct, with 37 out of 40 lawmakers voting in favor of his ousting. Following his impeachment, Mojisola Meranda, the deputy speaker, was chosen as his successor.

Despite his removal, Obasa consistently challenged the legitimacy of the impeachment process, claiming it lacked due process and was unconstitutional. His return to the Assembly on February 27, 2025, was marked by heightened tensions.

He arrived at the complex under heavy security escort and declared himself as the rightful Speaker.
