The Majority in parliament have given their support to the Electoral Commission over the pending Constitutional Instrument (CI), describing it as good for the country’s electoral reform.

According to the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, using the Ghana Card will sanitize the electoral system through its “Robust Nature”

The Leader of the Minority at a press conference on March 2,2023 to support the Electoral Commission on the proposed CI said, it has always been the mandate of the Electoral Commission to improve the country’s electoral system which previous ECs have done.

He further explained that what the E.C is seeking to do with the new C.I is to stop the use of fraudulent document and use the Ghana card as the sole document for the acquisition of voters’ ID.

The Minority on the other hand are against the new Constitutional Instrument saying that, it would disenfranchise some Ghanaians when passed.

The Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has disclosed that a sum of GH¢80 million out of the GH¢100 million that is required has been given to that effect and the remaining GH¢20 million will be settled by the close of this week.
