Kogi Tribunal Urge INEC to Grant Ajaka Access to Election Material

The Kogi State Tribunal has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to provide access to election materials to Murtala Ajaka, the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party.

This was said during a session held in Lokoja, aftter an application by S.E Aruwa (SAN), who cited difficulties in obtaining important election documents necessary for his case.

In his application, Aruwa pinpointed the challenges he faced in accessing 42 items used in the recent governorship election thst took place in the state, despite efforts at INEC offices in Abuja and Lokoja proving unsuccessful.

The presiding tribunal Judge, Justice Yusuf Birnin-Kudu, deemed the application meritorious, aligning it with the Constitution and the Electoral Law 2023.

Justice Birnin-Kudu granted the application, instructing INEC to provide Ajaka's counsel, led by John Adele, SAN, and Aruwa (SAN) with certified copies of election documents within two days.

Additionally, the tribunal chairman approved Adele's request for INEC to grant access to the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System and other electronic materials within 48 hours.

Following the ruling, Adele expressed optimism about INEC's compliance with the tribunal's directive.
