The presidential aspirant of People's Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, on Wednesday stormed Osun with his supporters and promised to address challenges ranging from education, employment, insecurity and unemployment.
In the party's campaign rally on Tuesday in Osogbo Freedom Park, Osun state, the presidential candidate lauded the people for voting for Ademola Adeleke as the Osun governor in the July 16 governorship election.
Atiku pleaded with Osun people to show the same love to him and vote for him in the 2023 presidential election, stating that if PDP emerges, it would be advantageous for them.
He disclosed that if he emerge, his administration will empower Adeleke with enough resources to cater for the affairs of the state, in terms of infrastructures for development, investing in education, healthcare and also bring about industrialisation for the benefit of the people.
Also, while speaking in the event, Ademola Adeleke who commended Osun people for their effort so far, affirmed that Atiku's emergence would curb evil in Nigeria, stating that he has the fear of God.
"The rule of law will be back in Nigeria, if we don't have due process we have failed, I'm promising you, Alhaji Abubakar will bring due process and rule of law to Nigeria, in terms of security, and all these will be a thing of the past. Osun people, I want you to show love, like you showed to me in the governorship election, I love you all" he added
Also speaking at the rally, the Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Udom Gabriel Emmanuel from People's Democratic Party, noted that the people should vote for Atiku so he can ensure everything is in order in terms of insecurity, electricity, adding that Osun has not been enjoying electricity for some time.
In his own remarks, the Party National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu noted that Atiku is the only candidate that can paddle the canoe of the country, adding that he has more experience, will, and the ability out of all those jostling for power.
Meanwhile, while in the rally Adeleke announced the defection of a former governorship candidate of Labour Party in the 2022 governorship election in Osun state, Lasun Yusuf to PDP.
All Progressives Congress in the state, condemned the action of the governor for blocking the roads that lead to the campaign ground, asserting that it has caused hardship for the people in Osogbo.
A statement signed by the Osun APC Media Director, Kola Olabisi, read: “Motorists and pedestrians in Osogbo, the state capital, woke up this morning to observe that the road from Onisekere to Okefia and Lameco to Okefia were blocked by the police who are acting on the authority of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
“There is no justifiable reason for Adeleke to have deliberately subjected the innocent and peace-loving people of the state to untold and avoidable suffering because of the visit of an individual whose mission in the state has nothing to do with the government’s business.
“It is more worrisome that the new administration in the state could flagrantly choose to add to the economic suffering of the people of the state who have to pay cut-throat fares because of the scarcity of fuel that is ravaging the state.
“The blockage of the roads is an indication that the Adeleke government is insensitive, inconsiderate and glaringly oppressive. Why must all the inhabitants of Osogbo be made to go through this harrowing experience because an individual, Atiku, carried his campaign train to the state capital?”
