Enugu South Re-rerun Disrupted by Hoodlums

Gbadamosi Azeezah

The Independent National Electoral Commission has reported disturbances caused by miscreants during the supplementary election at Enugu South 1 State Constituency, according to a statement made on their Twitter account on Wednesday.

While the unrest resulted in no fatalities, it led to damage to polling materials and prevented voters from participating in the election process.

The tweet reads, "Our Enugu State office's report points to disruptions by hoodlums in the court-mandated re-run election at Enugu South 1 State Constituency. Despite no loss of life, there has been destruction of election materials, hampering the ability of voters to exercise their vote."

It was also mentioned that the election personnel were safely withdrawn with the help of security forces. In a contrasting development, the commission noted that the voting process in the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency in Taraba State was conducted peacefully across three Local Government Areas.
