In protest at the party's shifting leadership in Parliament, some National Democratic Congress (NDC) members in the Tamale South constituency have surrounded the constituency office of the party.
The voters claim that there has never been such a transformation in the party's history. Additionally, they claim that Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman, sabotaged Haruna Iddrisu, the previous Minority Leader.
The National Office has been given a 24-hour deadline by the Irate party members to change the decision; otherwise, they risk incurring their wrath.
As Monitored by Lagos Local News on the matter, Alhaji Rauf Sumani, chairman of the NDC Tamale South Constituency, stated that the decision was unpopular and needed to be promptly overturned.
“We have never witnessed anything like this since 1992. We do not understand. Why do they want to sabotage Haruna Iddrisu? The key message we want to send to the party’s National Chairman and General Secretary is that the decision is not good. Nobody is aware of this. It was only the party leadership that did this. The decision should be reversed within 24 hours,” he fumed.
Inusah Fuseini, a former representative for Tamale Central, similarly referred to the NDC's shift in leadership in Parliament as unexpected.
Mr. Fuseini thinks the sudden adjustments are part of the party's grand strategy for the 2024 general elections.
On January 24, the NDC made some changes to its parliamentary leadership. Haruna Iddrisu, the MP for Tamale South, was replaced as the Minority Leader by Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Ranking Member of the Finance Committee and Member of Parliament for the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam Constituency in the Central Region.
As the Deputy Minority Leader and Minority Chief Whip, respectively, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP for Ellembelle, has taken over from James Klutse Avedzi, MP for Ketu North. Kwame Governs Agbodza has also taken over from Muntaka Mubarak, MP for Asawase.
However, Comfort Doyoe-Ghansah and Ahmed Ibrahim have continued in their roles as first and second deputy whips, respectively.
