Breaking News: Senator Akpabio Emerges As 10th Senate President

Beating Senator Yari of Zamfara state by 63 votes

Sen. Godswill Akpabio defeated Sen. Abdulaziz Yari to become the 10th President of the Senate.

Former senator and minority leader Akpabio scored 63 votes to defeat former governor of Zamfara Yari, who got 46.

Prior to the start of the 10th National Assembly, the majority of lawmakers had started voting on the Nigerian Senate floor.

After reviewing Senator Godswill Akpabi's past, Senator Ali Ndume proposed the former Akwa Ibom governor.

Senator Olamilekan Solomon Yayi of Ogun state seconded Akpabio's nomination.

Senator Ishaku Abbo also proposed Senator Abdul Aziz Yari as candidate for Senate President.
