Says "I'm the most experienced."

On Wednesday, Senate Appropriation Committee Chairman Senator Barau Jibrin announced his intention to run for Senate President of the 10th National Assembly.

In the upcoming weeks, Barau, who is representing the Kano Central Senatorial District, pledged to formally launch his campaign.

The senator said he is the most qualified and experienced candidate in the race for the seat while speaking with journalists on Wednesday.

He said, ”I intend to seek to be the President of the 10th Senate. I will formally declare and start my campaign in the next few days. The legislature is a distinct arm of government that doesn’t work based on sentiments but works on your ability to get the job done.

“Remember that David Mark was a Christian, Ike Ekweremadu, his Deputy was a Christian, and Patricia Etteh, the Speaker was a Christian because they were the most ranking, experienced and that is the tradition, so do we relegate competence to other sentiments.

“It is clear in the Senate Standing Rule that election for the Office of the Senate President shall be in accordance with most experience and ranking. And among those seeking to occupy that office, I have the highest ranking and experience.”
