Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has expressed concern about the incessant attacks on medical doctors and other healthcare providers by patient relatives and thugs. As a result, he has stated that his administration will increase hospital security to prevent hospital staff harassment.
The most recent incident in the state occurred at the Mother and Child hospital in Oke Aro, which is located in the Akure metropolis. A commercial driver used a cutlass to attack the on-duty nurses and doctors over the death of his five-year-old child.
After losing his son, the driver reportedly became irrational and used a cutlass to attack the hospital staff.
Vanguard accumulated that the driver and his significant other who hurried their debilitated kid into the crisis ward faulted them for his demise.
At Mother and Child Hospital's commissioning of the medical and surgical building, Governor Akeredolu, speaking through his Health Commissioner, Dr. Banji Ajaka, stated that his administration would no longer tolerate this extremely dangerous trend.
When asked about the governor's decision to rename the Akure Mother and Child Hospital (MCH) to the Ondo State Specialist Hospital, Akeredolu stated that the change was intended to enhance the quality of healthcare delivery. He also issued a warning against vicious assaults by patients' families and hoodlums.
“It is important to expand the range of services beyond maternal and child care at the Akure MCH, so that residents can enjoy unhindered access to qualitative health care,” the governor stated.
He asserts, "The hospital now provides services such as medical, surgical, dental, and other." To replace those who have left the system, efforts are being made to hire more health care workers.
According to Akeredolu, the government's health insurance program has begun, providing beneficiaries with free access to medical care.
Prof. Francis Faduyile, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, stated that the government instructed "it necessary for Akure to benefit maximally from the health programmes of the present government by putting in place a specialist hospital for them." This was a statement made by Prof. Faduyile.
Folukemi Aladenola, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, stated that the Ministry was determined to elevate the health sector.
