Two men, whose identities remain unconfirmed, died at a construction site in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Thursday while attempting to retrieve a bucket from a well.

Eyewitnesses, who requested anonymity, reported that the bucket being used to fetch water had fallen into the well. One of the workers entered the well to retrieve it but did not return. When the second worker attempted a rescue, he also got trapped and drowned.

The resulting tension prompted bystanders to contact the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Federal Fire Service for assistance.

Kehinde Adeleke, spokesperson for the NSCDC Osun State Command, confirmed the incident, describing it as tragic.

The bodies were eventually retrieved by the NSCDC and Federal Fire Service operatives.
