Tragedy Strikes as Church Building Collapses in Osun, Claim Lives

A heart-wrenching incident unfolded in Ikirun, the administrative center of Ifelodun local government area in Osun State, where a building being used as a church tragically collapsed. This devastating event resulted in the loss of two lives.

The unfortunate victims, as per preliminary investigations, were among four individuals who found themselves trapped beneath the rubble when the building gave way on the evening of Wednesday. It was revealed that the structure was still in the process of being constructed, with workers present on-site at the time of the collapse.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State command's Public Relations Officer, Kehinde Adeleke, officially confirmed this tragic incident on Thursday. She explained that the building, situated behind Eweta Community Primary School, suffered its collapse at approximately 7 pm on Wednesday.

Fortunately, diligent and compassionate residents from the community came to the rescue of the four victims who were entangled within the debris. These individuals were promptly transported to a nearby hospital, albeit in critical condition.

Sadly, it was reported that two of these rescued victims succumbed to their injuries and passed away at the hospital on Thursday, including the building's owner. This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to construction and safety standards to prevent such catastrophic events.
