This decision was announced by Mr. Willie Bassey, the Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), in a statement released on Friday night in Abuja.

According to the statement, the suspension comes as a result of an ongoing investigation into the activities of the Central Bank Governor's office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.

This decision underscores the government's commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in the financial sector, as well as its dedication to implementing necessary reforms for the benefit of the nation's economy.

“Mr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms”, the statement added.
