A tragic multiple vehicle accident occurred on Sunday afternoon at Second Rainbow in the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, resulting in the deaths of at least three people.

The incident occurred around 4 PM and involved a tanker loaded with petrol, two commercial buses, a Honda saloon car, and two commercial motorcycles.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the accident through a tweet on its X account, indicating that emergency responders were on-site to assist those affected.

“A multiple accident involving a tanker loaded with petrol, two commercial buses, a Honda saloon car, and two commercial motorcycles has just occurred at Second Rainbow inward Mile 2. #lasambus is on the ground to attend to the casualties involved, and safety measures are being put in place by our men,” the tweet stated.

An eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted that the crash happened when a trailer driver lost control of the brakes, colliding with both a car and a commercial bus. “The brake of the trailer failed and it crashed into those two vehicles. They have carried some bodies already. They are about three,” she reported.

At the scene, our correspondent noted the presence of officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Police, who were actively managing the situation. Bystanders also assisted in transporting the injured to nearby medical facilities.

A police officer present at the scene declined to provide further information when approached by our correspondent, stating, “I don’t have a chance now.”
