Benjamin Isaiah, former chairman of Kaduna State Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, has emerged the National President of the association.
He emerged the president during the just concluded National Triennial Delegates Conference, held at Omoku, River State on Thursday, July 13, 2023.
Isaiah defeated his opponent, Abubakar Adamu Sadiq with a wide margin of 16 votes to 6 votes.
The electoral chairman, Sunday Ugule, while declaring him the winner of the election said, “having secured the highest vote, I hereby declare Benjamin Isaiah as the National President of SWAN.”
Others elected include, the Deputy President, Bonny Nyong, Secretary, Ikenna Victor Okonkwo, Financial Secretary, Ijeoma Peter Nwante, Vice President South South, Azuka Ralph Chiemeka, Vice President South West, Ayodeji Ogunsakin, vise President South East, Frankie Omokua, Welfare, Austin Ajayi etc.
Isaiah, while delivering his acceptance speech, applauded Sirawoo, SWANECO and all delegates for electing him, and assured his determination to move the association forward.
He however, pledged to run an inclusive all government, while seeking support of everybody and appealed with those that couldn’t make it to accept defeat and work together for the benefit of the association.
Earlier, during the general NEC meeting, the immediate past President of SWAN, Honour Sirawoo announced Hon. Felix Amaechi Obua as the National Patron of the association.
Sirawoo said the choice of Obua as patron of the great association was based on his support and positive contributions to the development of SWAN, adding that it was a reward for his significant contribution.
Similarly, the newly appointed national Patron of SWAN Obuah acknowledged SWAN for honoring him, promising not to relent in his unalloyed support to the sports writers professionals.
Obuah who has served as council chairman of Ogba–Egbema–Ndoni local government area of Rivers State, advised contestants to accept the outcome of the SWAN election in good faith and work together to move the association to enviable heights.
He reaffirmed commitment to sports development through continuous sponsorship of sporting activities in his state and even in the country to promote national integration.
