The Nigeria Police Force has warned Nigerians to steer clear of using the office or the name of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to intimidate others.

The force said using the IG’s name or office could weaken the values of justice that the office defends in the country.

It was gathered that a viral video emerged on social media showing Ikwechegh physically and verbally abusing the driver for instructing him to come out and get the snail the driver was meant to deliver to him.

In the video, the visibly annoyed lawmaker claimed that the request was rude due to his social status.

Ikwechegh also threatened to make Abuwatseya “disappear” without facing any repercussions. When the Bolt driver asked for his delivery fee, the lawmaker slapped him multiple times, querying if the driver knew who he was talking to.

“Do you know who I am? I can make this man disappear from the whole of Nigeria, and nothing will happen. Can you imagine this rat? I am not going to give this boy one naira of my money.

In the post on X, the police noted that it is aware of the incident that occurred on Sunday, and the Federal Capital Territory Police Command is addressing the case following the driver’s official report.

The tweet reads, “The Nigeria Police Force is aware of the incident between a Bolt driver, Mr. Stephen Abuwatseya, and Hon. Alexander Ikwegh, which took place on October 27, 2024, in Maitama, Abuja. The FCT Command is actively addressing the issue following Mr. Abuwatseya’s official report at the Maitama Divisional Headquarters.

The Force also advised the public to desist from using the name or office of the Inspector-General of Police to scare others, as such actions weaken the values of fairness that the IGP’s office defends.”
