SSANU Strike Responsible for Student's Death, Says FUOYE

The Federal University, Oye Ekiti, has attributed the tragic death of an asthmatic student on Tuesday morning to the closure of the institution's clinic, caused by the ongoing strike led by the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU).

According to the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, the university's clinic remained inaccessible due to the strike, resulting in the student's inability to receive urgent medical attention.

Fasina accused SSANU of spreading falsehoods about the university, leading to an invasion by hoodlums and subsequent closure of the institution.

Despite the strike, Fasina highlighted that other institutions like Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, had operational facilities.

He condemned the alleged incitement by EKSU SSANU and expressed determination to uphold the university's security and operations within the confines of the law.

In response, SSANU chairman, Oluwaseun Faleye, defended the strike, stating that the university had been duly notified.

Faleye denied involvement in the invasion and challenged the university management to provide evidence. He cited intimidation tactics by the management and emphasized SSANU's adherence to national directives regarding the strike.
