A tragic road accident claimed the lives of at least five individuals on Saturday at Akinfosile, along the Ore-Lagos expressway in Ondo State.

In a statement, spokesperson Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya of the command reported that the auto accident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. in the Akinfosile area of the expressway.

The bus, en route to Lagos from Akure, somersaulted and veered off the road into the bush.

Odunlami-Omisanya mentioned that injured victims were promptly transported to Grace of God Hospital, the nearest medical facility, while the deceased were taken to the hospital's mortuary.

She assured that investigations were underway to determine the cause of the accident, and efforts were being made to contact the families of the passengers involved.

Additionally, she advised the public to check on relatives who embarked on the journey from Akure to Lagos that morning to confirm their safety. For those unsure of their family's whereabouts, she provided a contact number for the Igbotako Division police station.

This incident follows a near-fatal experience the previous week, where passengers traveling from Ojota Park in Lagos to Akure narrowly escaped a similar fate. A front tyre of their bus exploded shortly after passing Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State. Though the driver managed to control the vehicle, the passengers were left shaken.

Investigation revealed the worn-out condition of the tyres and the lack of a serviceable spare, leaving passengers stranded until they could arrange alternative transportation.
