The National Emergency Management Agency has confirmed that wind and rainstorms on May 1, 2023, that wreaked havoc in various communities in Lagos State, impacted at least 336 families and 228 buildings.
While confirming the development in a Monday statement, NEMA Coordinator Ibrahim Farinloye said that the rainstorm did not result in any casualties or deaths.
However, he cautioned the general public against engaging in reckless behavior, particularly during business hours.
Farinloye stated, "An assessment by NEMA has shown that some houses across Lagos State have been impacted to varying degrees." On May 1 and 15, 2023, serious breeze/rainstorms with next to no loss or casualty except for with chaperon harms to public and confidential structures were recorded.
"The office evaluated Agboyi One, Agboyi Two, Agboyi Three, and Odo-Ogun people group in the Kosofe Nearby Government Area of Lagos State, and around 130 houses were either somewhat or completely impacted with around 228 families included. The episode happened on May 1, 2023.
“Approximately 98 buildings in Agege, Ifako Ijaye, Ikola, Isale Aboru, and Oke Isegun in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State were affected by the incident on May 15, 2023, affecting approximately 108 families. Around 13 power posts were impacted in the areas."
Farinloye encouraged Nigerians to practice limitations on their exercises, particularly during working hours.
Meanwhile, a rainstorm that destroyed the roofs of shopping centers, schools, churches, and a gas station in the Arepo community of the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area in Ogun State has thrown landlords, residents, and business owners into a state of confusion.
The rainstorm harmed the covering of the gas station at the Arepo intersection and furthermore removed different signs raised near the premises.
Without revealing his identity for fear of retaliation, a newspaper vendor told our correspondent that the rain had been falling since Sunday.
He stated, "The Arepo filling station's canopy was damaged by the breeze during the rainfall." Assuming that you go inside the Arepo people group, you will perceive the way the breeze from the precipitation obliterated the rooftops and walls of structures.
