Police Detains NSCDC officials for Shooting Students in Abuja

Three members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were apprehended and detained by the Nigeria Police for allegedly shooting two students from Senior Secondary School, Life Camp.

The unfortunate incidence happened in Jabi and Gwarinpa area of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja, reports had it that the two injured students shot by the NSCDC officers are currently treatment at Gwarinpa Hospital.

Following the unfortunate shooting incidence, a group of angry high secondary school students took to the street, in solidarity to the assault made on their colleagues and vented their anger, which took an ugly turn of event when three patrol vehicles belonging to the NSCDC was vandalized.

Eye witness reported that the incident happened around 11.20 am on Wednesday when NSCDC personnel, assigned to the FCT Command, were present at the school to provide security during an ongoing examination.

The FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh acknowledged the unfortunate incident and assured that the police had successfully restored peace in the affected area.

Adeh said, “The incident happened, but our operatives intervened in time to restore law and order, and the environment is now peaceful. Two injured students are currently receiving treatment, and the CP, Haruna Garba has ordered the commencement of an investigation into the incident.”

Meanwhile, the FCT Command of the NSCDC has yet to comment on the development.

When contacted for comments, the spokesperson for the FCT NSCDC, Comfort Okomanyi, said she was indisposed, while noting that she would make inquiries from the command and revert.

“I’m sorry, I’m currently indisposed. However, I’ll reach out to the command for an update on the matter, and I’ll get back to you,” Okomanyi noted.
