In a significant development, Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has stepped forward to fulfill the bail conditions for human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi.
This announcement comes in the wake of Farotimi's recent legal troubles, which have garnered substantial public attention.
Farotimi, known for his outspoken criticism of systemic issues in Nigeria, was granted bail by an Ekiti Magistrate Court in a defamation case involving prominent legal figure Afe Babalola.
The court set stringent bail conditions, including a N30 million bond, two sureties with one required to be a property owner, the surrender of Farotimi's passport, and a prohibition on granting media interviews.
Tanko Yunusa, who previously served as a spokesperson for Obi's 2023 presidential campaign, revealed Obi's decision through a statement on his social media account.
Yunusa emphasized Obi's commitment to the rule of law and his desire to see the matter resolved in a manner that respects legal processes while benefiting all parties involved.
"His Excellency Peter Obi, as the leader of the Obidient Movement, has offered to take on Dele Farotimi's bail conditions," Yunusa stated.
He further conveyed Obi's appreciation to the courts and all concerned parties, underscoring the importance of resolving the situation in the best interest of the legal system and all stakeholders.
