A recent ruling by the Osun State High Court has removed Oba Johnson Ajiboye as the traditional ruler and Olola of Ola in Ejigbo Local Government Area.
The court's decision, delivered by Justice Lawrence Arojo, has stirred tension in the town. Governor Ademola Adeleke had approved Ajiboye's appointment on January 3, 2024, despite a pending court case and restraining order.
The court granted six interlocutory injunctions on March 25, 2024, following a motion filed by the opposing family, alleging illegality. As a result, the stool of Olola of Ola has been declared vacant.
The community has faced several crises since Ajiboye's selection, including the head of kingmakers boycotting his installation. The opposing family, Olugbode, filed a motion seeking Ajiboye's removal and nullification of his appointment letter.
Concerns have been raised about potential anarchy, with Olugbode requesting the Osun Police Command to prevent Ajiboye from conferring chieftaincy titles at his palace to avoid a breakdown of law and order.
