The Osun State Government has issued a stern warning to dog owners in the region, cautioning them to control their dogs or be subject to legal consequences.

This caution follows a tragic incident in August when a group of dogs attacked and tragically killed an infant in the Halleluyah Estate vicinity of Osogbo. 

During the harrowing attack, the mother of the five-month-old baby girl also sustained injuries from the menacing canines.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Tola Faseru, conveyed this warning during a meeting with dog breeders, owners, and veterinary establishments within the State. 

Faseru emphatically stated that the State would not tolerate dogs terrorizing its residents, stating, "Henceforth, dog owners will face requisite legal action if any of their dogs is found guilty."

He further expressed concern about the proliferation of unregistered dogs roaming the streets without restraint, deeming it unfortunate.

To address this issue, Faseru mandated that all veterinary establishments must register with the State government, adding that the State government was implementing measures to ensure that all dogs receive an anti-rabies vaccination certificate. 

"These certificates must be properly endorsed by a certified veterinarian," he emphasized.
