Osun CSOs Warn Tinubu: Restore Subsidies or Face Renewed Protests

Boluwatife Adedokun

President Bola Tinubu has been warned by the Osun State Civil Societies Coalition (OCSC) to reinstate fuel and electricity subsidies or face renewed nationwide protests. The coalition, which represents civil society organizations in Osun State, issued this ultimatum following the conclusion of a 10-day #EndBadGovernance protest.

In a statement signed by its chairman, Comrade Waheed Lawal, the coalition criticized Tinubu's response to the protests, noting that the President has failed to address the concerns of Nigerians struggling with the high cost of living and economic hardship. Lawal urged the federal government to implement policies that ease the economic burden on citizens, rather than relying on state-distributed palliatives.

The coalition also demanded the release of detained protesters and warned that failure to meet their demands would lead to a larger, more disciplined movement of citizens and youths. "We shall organize a bigger, broader, and more disciplined movement for another round of protests if the President remains indifferent to the demands of Nigerians", Lawal stated.
