Nigerian politician, statesman, and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Gregory Onwubuasi Obi, expressed concern about the lack of courageous individuals who are willing to speak truth to power.

During a recent event in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, at the 10th anniversary of the Alaigbo Development Foundation, Obi lamented the prevalence of "praise singers" in the country. He mentioned that these individuals often fail to offer honest feedback to those in power.

Obi emphasized the need for political leaders to utilize public funds for the benefit of the people, urging the implementation of people-centered policies and the active pursuit of programs aimed at promoting public peace. He attributed Nigeria's challenges to the greed and unyielding pursuit of wealth by those in government, urging citizens to confront their leaders honestly and refrain from idolizing them.

The former LP presidential candidate suggested the establishment of a culture of constructive criticism in Nigeria, advocating for leaders to listen to the electorate rather than surrounding themselves with praise singers. Obi also underscored the responsibility of leaders to allocate public funds towards projects that benefit the public, citing his own track record of using public money for public purposes.

Highlighting his commitment to ethical conduct, Obi emphasized that he refrained from misusing public funds for personal gain and left office without owing salaries, pensions, or gratuities to workers, including pensioners and contractors. He also mentioned leaving behind $150 million for Anambra State and called for prayers for leaders, hoping they would be guided by their faith to serve the public's best interests
