The National Emergency Management Agency stated on Saturday that no one was hurt in the three-story building collapse in Surulere, Lagos' Ikpoh Street.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos received confirmation of the incident from Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, NEMA's territorial coordinator.

The building at No. 14 Ikpoh Street Surulere collapsed at 10 p.m. on Friday night.

Businessman Mr. Gervase Anyanwu, who was a resident of the building, informed NAN that everybody was able to leave before it collapsed altogether.

Anyanwu claimed that a loud noise was heard at one of the building's wings just before it collapsed.

“Immediately we heard the sound, all the occupants of the building gathered at the mustard point, before evacuating for safety.

“No casualty was recorded,” Anyanwu said.

Anyanwu said the immediate evacuation of the occupants was “simply by the grace of God”.

However, NAN gathered from another street resident that the structure had displayed significant warning signs prior to its collapse.
