Nigerian teenage girls reportedly trafficked to Ghana for prostitution have returned to Nigeria and are receiving rehabilitation and therapy from the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and their respective states.

This was revealed by the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in a post on her X account while providing an update on the girls.

Dabiri-Erewa revealed that the nine teenage girls rescued in Ghana arrived in Lagos at about 9:55 p.m. on Friday, when they were profiled and handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

The Commission also disclosed that the trafficker has been arrested and charged to court in Ghana.
Dabiri-Erewa underlined the need for a sustainable solution to eradicate human trafficking in Nigeria, saying, "We must declare a war against human traffickers."

She urged parents to always question the whereabouts of their children when they are taken away by relatives or acquaintances, as well as to work together to identify and arrest traffickers.

She thanked the Acting Nigerian Ambassador to Ghana, Ambassador Adeoye Ifedayo, Eze Igbo Ghana, Chukwudi Ihenetu, Chief Callistus, Chairman BOT Ghana, and the NIDO Team for their collaborative efforts in rescuing the girls.

She also praised the Imo State Governor for swiftly assigning a high-level delegation to retrieve the girls.
