Nigerian workers who put in an average of 2,124 hours a year, are the second-hardest-working people in the world, behind Mexicans.

Nigeria automatically received the title of Africa's most diligent nation in a study released by the World of Statistics on Tuesday.

According to the most recent World of Statistics report, Nigerians had 2,128 hours compared to Mexican workers who topped the table, by just four hours.

In Nigeria, the majority of public and private employees are required to put in eight hours a day, which could be from 8 to 4 or 9 to 5 on weekdays.

As a result of the possibility of shift work on Saturdays or Sundays, several organizations, including media outlets, hospitals, security firms, and manufacturing businesses, need their employees to work extra days and hours.

Workers like market women and other traders may put in up to ten hours a day in an informal atmosphere.

Even though the survey didn't mention the kind of work done, it seemed like the top five nations were not tech-oriented.

Nigeria was followed by three Central and South American nations: Costa Rica came in third with 2,073 hours, Colombia came in fourth with 1,964 hours, and Chile came in fifth with 1,916.

Nigerians work 2,124 hours a year, which indicates they spend at least five hours a day working productively, as opposed to their South African counterparts who put in four hours.

The World of Statistics is a global network of almost 2,360 organizations and is the successor to the highly successful International Year of Statistics (Statistics 2013) campaign, which was celebrated in 2013.
