In a dialogue with reporters in Lafia, Allumaga stated that flood episodes, transpiring in the Lafia and Toto local government areas during August 2023, rendered many households homeless and annihilated possessions of those afflicted.

Elaborating further, the DG recounted how the deluge in Lafia's local government caused extensive damage, including the submergence of the Federal University of Lafia's off-campus student quarters. This catastrophe wreaked havoc upon computers, mattresses, books, food items, and other cherished assets.

Continuing his account, Allumaga revealed another inundation had occurred in the Toto local government area, where around 60 dwellings were submerged and numerous properties obliterated.

The NASEMA DG noted that the flooding in Toto resulted from gully erosion, channeling water to ravage property and crumble multiple residences. He assured the community in Toto and the Federal University's off-campus facility in Lafia that preparations to furnish relief materials were well underway.

He pledged that the Agency would steadfastly pursue its mission of preventing and alleviating disasters through awareness campaigns, evacuating victims, and supplying relief materials to disaster-stricken individuals.

Allumaga said, "The agency, at the onset of the rainy season, conducted extensive sensitization efforts in communities residing in flood-prone areas, particularly along the River Benue and other flood-prone local government areas. This was aimed at reminding residents of the peril posed by floods."

He admonished the populace of the state to diligently heed flood forecasts issued by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) by refraining from farming and constructing on waterways in the state.
