The Kano State Police Command confirmed that six family members died after eating a traditional meal known as Danwake in the Gwarzo Local Government Area of the State.

Alhakatu Abdulkarim, a widow, and her five children, Bashir, Firdausi, Hafsat, Usman, and Jamilu, died a few hours after consuming the alleged contaminated delicacy.

Abdullahi Haruna, spokesman for the Kano Police Command, confirmed the unfortunate incident on Sunday, saying the victims were brought to Gwarzo General Hospital, where doctors confirmed their deaths.
Haruna however added that the Command had begun an investigation to unravel the mystery behind the deaths.

"We are still waiting for the medical report from the hospital to ascertain the cause of the death of the six persons," he stated.

The incident was reported to have happened last Thursday, when the widow, who was responsible for providing food for her five children, allegedly used expired cassava flour to prepare the meal for everyone.
