Man with Firearms Arrested in Enugu Masquerade's Clash

The police statement confirmed the restoration of normalcy and the initiation of an investigation into the incident's cause

The Enugu State Police Command reported that during a clash between two Odo Masquerade groups in Aku, Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, they arrested an individual with a firearm. 

DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the command's spokesperson, mentioned that the clash occurred on Monday, resulting in one fatality and injuries to several others, including deployed police officers. 

The clash stemmed from a disagreement between the groups regarding the timing of the festival. 

The police statement confirmed the restoration of normalcy and the initiation of an investigation into the incident's cause. 

Ndukwe stated, "In connection with the clash between rival groups in the Aku community... a male suspect has been arrested, and a firearm was seized from him over the Odo Masquerade festival celebration on August 28, 2023, around 4 pm. 

The incident led to the shooting, murder of one male victim, and injury of others, including police operatives."
