Boluwatife Adedokun

An unidentified man committed suicide on Saturday by jumping into the Osun River from Gbodofon Bridge in Osogbo, along the Ibadan expressway.

According to an eyewitness, the man was seen around 10:30 AM wandering near the lower level of the bridge before moving to the pedestrian walkway and jumping into the river.

The eyewitness reported hearing the man say "Oti sumi" (which translates to "I am tired") before he dived into the water.

Another passerby mentioned that he saw the man walking towards him but was unaware of his intention to jump into the river.

Rescue teams from both state and federal fire services arrived at the scene over an hour after the incident occurred but were unable to rescue the man.

At the time of filing this report, the man’s body has not been recovered from the river.
