The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed a tragic incident involving a lion at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, where a 35-year-old zoo worker, Babaji Daule, was killed on Saturday.

According to police spokesperson Omolola Odutola, the incident occurred when Daule, a trained lion handler originally from Bauchi State, reportedly neglected to secure the locks and barricade of the lion’s enclosure before approaching to feed the animal.

This oversight allowed the lion to escape and attack him, resulting in fatal injuries to his neck.

Following the attack, Daule's body was transported to the Ijaye General Hospital mortuary. In an effort to free him from the lion's grip, authorities made the difficult decision to shoot the animal.

Odutola noted that further details surrounding the incident are still being gathered, and she assured that more information would be provided as it becomes available.
