In a significant move for the Oyo Kingdom, Governor Seyi Makinde officially appointed Prince Abimbola Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo on Friday.

This decision follows extensive consultations and traditional divinations, culminating in a recommendation from the Oyomesi, the traditional council of kingmakers.

Prince Owoade, a member of the distinguished Owoade-Agunloye royal family, brings a rich background as a Nigerian-Canadian entrepreneur and philanthropist. His lineage traces back to Aremo Aderounmu Iyanda Owoade, underscoring his deep-rooted connection to the cultural heritage of Oyo.

An accomplished academic, he completed his secondary education at Baptist High School in Saki before pursuing mechanical engineering at The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, and The Polytechnic, Ibadan. He furthered his studies in the UK, earning both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Professionally, Prince Owoade has held significant roles across continents, including positions as a Planning Engineer in Glasgow and currently as a Project Coordinator at Manitoba Hydro in Canada. His leadership and commitment to philanthropy have earned him respect within his community and beyond.
