The Kano State government has taken proactive measures to address the growing concern of waste management in the region. In response to the indiscriminate dumping of waste, officials have reintroduced waste disposal bins in tricycles, commonly referred to as "Adaidaita Sahu," as well as in commercial vehicles operating throughout the state.

Dr. Dahiru Hashimu, the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, announced this initiative during the launch of the Kano State Waste Management and Refuse Disposal Initiative.

He emphasized that these measures are designed to provide convenient options for individuals to dispose of their trash responsibly, while also underscoring that littering will not be tolerated.

To further support this initiative, waste disposal bins will be strategically placed at key locations such as major roads, motor parks, and marketplaces.

Dr. Hashimu highlighted the collaboration between the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and other relevant ministries, including Transportation and Commerce, to tackle waste management challenges effectively.

The commissioner articulated a vision for a cleaner environment, stating that the introduction of waste bins in public transportation systems is a crucial step toward reducing litter on the streets.

Additionally, he mentioned plans to work closely with market associations and business operators to ensure that waste is managed responsibly in commercial areas.

Dr. Hashimu stressed the importance of environmental cleanliness as a critical aspect of public health and urban development. He reiterated the commitment of Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf to maintaining a clean and healthy environment for all residents and visitors in Kano State.

Moreover, as part of this comprehensive strategy, street sweepers will be reintroduced to key areas in Kano City to enhance cleanliness further.

In conclusion, Dr. Hashimu called on all residents—transport operators, market traders, industrialists, and community leaders—to actively participate in keeping their environments clean.
