Nigeria has suffered its ninth national power outage in 2024, plunging the country into darkness once again.

A finding by our correspondent on the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of the Nigeria National Grid (@NationalGridNg) disclosed an official statement signed by JosDisco, Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Friday Adakole.

The tweet read: “The recent outage being experienced within our autonomous region is a result of a loss of power supply from the national grid. The loss of power supply from the national grid happened this morning at about 11:28 AM on Thursday, 7th November 2024, thus the loss of power supply on all our sources.

“We hope to restore normal power supply to our valued customers as soon as the grid supply is restored to normalcy. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we strive to serve you better.”

Similarly, the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) also announced the latest collapse in a message to customers.

The DISCO said: “Please be informed that we experienced a system outage today, 07 November 2024, at 11:29 hours, impacting supply within our network.”

IKEDC promised customers that efforts to restore power are underway in partnership with important stakeholders, though no timeline was provided.

“Restoration of supply is ongoing. Kindly bear with us,” the company stated.

However, the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has not issued an official statement on the reason the grid collapsed on Thursday.
